Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our Free Museum Visits Partners are operating with specific safety protocols. Please visit PITT ARTS’ COVID-19 Arts Update page to learn about other Pittsburgh Arts and Culture closures, cancellations and postponed events.

 

PITT ARTS’ Museum Visits are free only for undergraduate, graduate and professional students from the Pittsburgh campus with a valid Pitt student ID. All others must pay admission costs set by the participating museums.

The Andy Warhol Museum is open to the public Tuesday through Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Fridays 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Closed Mondays. Pitt Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID  to gain free admission. The steps The Warhol is taking to be visitor-ready include: requiring visitors and staff to wear masks and practice safe social distancing; limiting the number of visitors to 10% of the building capacity at any one time; enhanced cleaning protocols; marked foot-traffic patterns in high-traffic areas; the modification of interactive exhibitions and increased hand sanitizer stations; and the installation of plexiglass shields at visitor service desks and in office spaces. Fall/Winter Hours: The Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History are open Monday, Wednesday, Friday – Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m and Thursday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Closed Tuesdays. Pitt Students may reserve their advanced timed tickets through either https://carnegiemnh.org/buy-tickets/ or https://cmoa.org/visit/. Either site will gain admission to both museums. When the students visit the website, they should select the student rate.  When they go to checkout, they will enter the promo code PITT20 and it will not charge them for the ticket. Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID at the museums to access their free admission. Visitors and staff are required to wear masks, practice social distancing, and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer. In the galleries, nothing is permitted to be carried on one’s back, including backpacks, drawstring bags, and purses. Please leave umbrellas, briefcases, backpacks, and large bags at home. Only pencils, paper, notebooks and sketchbooks are permitted in the galleries; please do not bring pens, paints, or inks. Please, note Wednesdays 10 a.m.–Noon are designated for high risk visitors, including those over the age of 65.

 

Fall/Winter Hours: The Carnegie Science Center is open to the general public Monday, Wednesday – Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sundays noon–5 p.m. Closed Tuesdays. Pitt Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID  to gain free admission. Each visitor is required to wear a face mask that covers their nose and mouth. Please maintain at least six feet between your group members and others. Please use hand sanitizer before and after you interact with exhibits. Please stay to the right on the ramps and stairs and only use elevators if necessary.

 

The Mattress Factory‘s hours are Wednesday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Thursday – Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Closed Monday and Tuesday. 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. each day will be generally reserved for at-risk visitors. Please be respectful of this request when purchasing tickets. To limit the number of the visitors in the museum at a time, they are instituting a timed-entry system. All visitors must purchase/reserve their tickets online before arriving at the museum.

 

To reserve your tickets for Wednesday, August 17 – Sunday, August 23, click HERE. There is a Free Admission option for University of Pittsburgh Main Campus students. When you arrive at the museum, you will need to show either a digital or paper copy of your e-ticket at the admissions desk. You will also be required to present your valid Pitt ID to receive your free admission. You may arrive at any time during the first half-hour of your time slot, but please do not arrive before the time on your ticket.

 

For your safety and the safety of all visitors and staff, masks are required for everyone inside the museum. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, please notify the museum in advance via info@mattress.org or 412.231.3169. All visitors will be required to adhere to social distancing guidelines of at least six feet. To help maintain social distancing, they have placed markers on the floor and redesigned traffic flow to limit interaction. Exhibitions where social distancing cannot be observed will be temporarily closed or re-configured. For this reason, James Turrell’s Pleiades will be temporarily closed. Backpacks are allowed, as are pencils, notebooks and sketchbooks. No groups at this time due to the museum’s limited occupancy.

 

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is open daily 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. All tickets must be reserved in advance by emailing tickets@phipps.conservatory.org or calling 412-622-6915. For your safety and the safety of those around you, masks are required for all guests ages 2 and up for the duration of your visit. Signs have been placed on the floors throughout the conservatory to remind you what a six foot distance looks like. They have created a one-way experience through the conservatory for you to minimize interactions with other guests. Please follow the directional signs and leave plenty of room between yourself and the other guests. In order to minimize contact with surfaces, Phipps has temporarily eliminated hands-on play areas and activities. Please refrain from touching surfaces unless absolutely necessary. Please don’t hesitate to use the hand sanitizing stations located throughout the Conservatory. The Senator John Heinz History Center and Fort Pitt Museum are both open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pitt Students must present their valid Pittsburgh campus ID to gain free admission. With the health and safety of visitors and staff in mind, new policies and procedures are now in place. Face coverings are required at all times inside the museums, while it remains a recommendation by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. All visitors and staff are encouraged to practice social distancing at least six feet apart at all times. Hand sanitizing stations are provided  for visitors at the museum entrance and throughout the building. Limited group visits are available in advance by contacting reservations@heinzhistorycenter.org.

 

Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum will be offering admission to the museum by appointment only. To make an appointment to visit or for more information please contact Tim Neff, Vice President/Director of Museum & Education at tim@soldiersandsailorshall.org (412) 621-4253 x219. Please, give a 1st and 2nd choice of the times you wish to attend. Due to COVID-19 the group visits will only be offered to groups smaller than 20 people in order to ensure proper social distancing and comfort. Face masks are required to be worn covering the mouth and nose throughout the museum. Hand sanitizing stations and additional cleaning protocols have been added throughout the public areas of the museum.

 

Please note that group visits and tours must be arranged in advance. In addition, please check with your department prior to considering a tour that they are indeed willing to reimburse PITT ARTS for docent-led and other Group Visits.
