WELCOME TO THE PANTHER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY!
The Panther Leadership Academy (formerly known as Emerging Leaders and Leadership in Action) is a 20-week leadership development program that helps students discover and develop their personal capacity to lead effectively and inclusively. The foundation of the Panther Leadership Academy is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership which highlights on 8 key principles:
- Consciousness of self
- Common Purpose
- Controversy with Civility
In the Panther Leadership Academy, we use a hands-on approach combined with large and small group discussions, team building activities, community engagement, and role playing. Topics we discuss in the Panther Leadership Academy include:
- Leadership philosophies
- The cycle of socialization
- The cycle of liberation
- Communication styles
- Social identities
- Social power
- Group dynamics
- Social media use
- Resume building
- Confronting biases
- Community engagement
Panther Leadership Academy Schedule & Registration
The Panther Leadership Academy is a total of 20 weeks, but split into two 10-week semesters, Section 01 (typically completed in the Fall semester) and Section 02 (typically completed in the Spring semester). To graduate the Panther Leadership Academy, a student must complete both Section 01 AND Section 02. For Section 01 and Section 02 the Panther Leadership Academy, offers its 10-week sessions once per week for two hours in a cohort style that allows you to build relationships and grow with a small group of 10-20 peers throughout the duration of the semester. Fall 2021 Panther Leadership Academy Section Days & Times:
*All Sections begin the week of September 12th and end the week of November 14th.
*At this time, we do not know if Fall 2021 Panther Leadership Academy sessions will be held virtually or in person. A decision will be made on this by August 30th, 2021.

The Panther Leadership Academy has a $20 non-refundable registration fee, though all Fall 2021 inaugural participants will be free. Registrants can pay with cash, check, or Panther Funds. Cash or check should be brought to the Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development, 617 William Pitt Union. Panther Funds can be utilized by going to Panther Central to pay for the program. If registrants are unable to pay the registration fee please contact Andre Roberts at email@example.com.
What will I receive after completing the Panther Leadership Academy?
- A Certificate of completion from the Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development
- CCLD, Pitt, and/or Panther Leadership Academy merchandise
- Outside the Curriculum (OCC) credit toward the Leadership Development Goal
- Ability to continue taking various classes at Pitt to attain Certification of Leadership through the College of General Studies
- Ability to apply to be a Peer Facilitator for the Panther Leadership Academy
Peer Facilitator and Staff Facilitator Application
There are currently no open Peer or Staff Facilitators positions. Applications for Peer and Staff facilitators are announced during the months of April/May and November/December.
