William Pitt Union
The WPU’s Guest Relations Assistant position is made up of two roles: Information Desk Assistant and Ticket Office Assistant. Staff are trained in both roles and must be willing to work both.
Guest Relations Assistants will be required to use communication, professionalism, and customer service skills to direct and assist students, campus visitors, and University of Pittsburgh staff. Student employees will develop appropriate customer service skills including greeting visitors, answering questions, and using proper phone etiquette. The Guest Relations Assistant is expected to remain alert and knowledgeable of building activities at the William Pitt Union, O’Hara Student Center, Towers lobby, David Lawrence, the Cathedral of Learning, and Schenley Quad.
At the Information Desk, the student staff member will have an opportunity to maintain the William Pitt Union information desk, accurately log and maintain Lost & Found and Will Call items, distribute keys to student offices, assist in handling facility issues, make deliveries across campus, and perform any other administrative tasks as assigned.
At the Ticket Office, the student staff member will be trained on the WPU Ticket Office duties in order to properly operate the Ticket Office and cash register. Duties of this role include selling various event tickets for student organizations and departments, assisting with Posvar Hall locker rentals, counting, verifying, and sorting cashboxes, and other administrative tasks. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, responsibility, and trustworthiness.
At times, the Guest Relations Assistant will assist in handling emergencies and following protocol in the event of an emergency.
Evening and weekend hours are required.
Previous customer service experience and cash handling experience preferred.
Ability and eagerness to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment are a must. A positive attitude, attention to detail, exceptional communication, and showing initiative will be required.
Nordy’s Attendants serve students who utilize Nordy’s Place through the management of games, pool and ping pong rentals, and foodservice. The attendant is responsible for upholding all foodservice requirements when preparing and serving food. The Nordy’s Attendant is responsible for ensuring a clean appearance of Nordy’s Place at all times.
Nordy’s Attendants will provide a high level of customer service to all patrons of Nordy’s Place. Additionally, Attendants will help plan and execute events in Nordy’s Place. This position is in a fast-paced environment in which students will manage multiple tasks at once to ensure a smooth operation of Nordy’s Place.
Reservations Assistants will be required to be communitive, professional, collaborative, and exhibit customer service skills to assist students, staff, and campus visitors at The University of Pittsburgh.
This position requires student staff to be knowledgeable of building activities and policies at the William Pitt Union, The Cathedral of Learning, David Lawrence Hall, Towers Patio, Towers Tabling, and Schenley Quad during shifts. Shifts are Monday- Friday only.
This student staff member will have an opportunity to maintain reservations through the spaces the WPU is responsible for by answering phone calls, providing some in-person customer service, performing hourly building rounds, unlocking and relocking the necessary spaces, accurately logging notes and policy violations for the Reservations Office, assisting in handling facility issues, and performing other administrative tasks as assigned.
Previous customer service experience preferred. Ability and eagerness to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment is a must. A positive attitude, attention to detail, exceptional communication, and showing initiative will be required.
O’Hara Student Center
The OSC Information Desk attendant will be required to use problem solving, communication and organizational skills to direct and assist students, campus visitors, and University staff. While employed at the OSC Information Desk, students will use their knowledge of both the campus and the city to help students, faculty and staff successfully navigate the facility, campus and Pittsburgh. Student employees will develop extensive customer service skills. In addition, the information attendant will maintain a list of building activities and distribute keys and passes to student offices in accordance with OSC procedures and policies. The information attendant will assist in handling emergencies and following protocol in the event of an emergency.
While employed with Technical Services, the student employee will provide audio/visual support to events in the William Pitt Union and O’Hara Student Center. Technical Services staff are mainly responsible for setting up and running events as well as assisting in the operation of sound for events. Therefore, they must develop and demonstrate a working knowledge of all technical equipment (lighting, sound, stage, & projection). Prior live audio and lighting experience is preferred, but not required. Training on all equipment will be provided. The Technical Services staff will also provide a high level of customer service to all patrons of the William Pitt Union and the O’Hara Student Center. Staff will be required to provide customer support by greeting visitors and providing them with any needed technical assistance. This position is in a fast-paced environment in which students will manage multiple tasks at once, utilize strong communication skills and maintain a professional demeanor. Prior customer service experience is preferred, but not required.
