Enrollment

Here you will find some of the requirements to become a cadet in our program. Most importantly, all cadets are expected to live by the USAF core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. If you are interested in joining, please visit the Meet the Cadre page to get in touch with a cadre member.

AFROTC is designed as a 4-year program. Cadets typically enter AFROTC in their undergraduate college studies within their first or second year. It can be completed in 3-years on an accelerated timeline. Junior year students may be able to enter but need to talk to Cadre first.

Approximately 5% of our Cadets enter as High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) Scholars through a very competitive process. About 95% of our Cadets are "Walk On" students with scholarship opportunities available later in our program. HSSP non-selects can always "Walk On."

High School Scholarship (HSSP) Process

This 4-year scholarship is highly competitive and typically awarded to STEM majors.

The window to apply is typically 1 July to 31 December of High School Senior year.

Walk-Ons and Interest Form

AFROTC enrollment is open to all undergraduate students regardless of scholarship status. Our focus is to develop you into a leader of character. Det 730 can enroll students accepted to or enrolled in any of our 15 partner universities below. Filling out the Interest Form allows us to more seamlessly connect you to program & enrollment information. For specific questions or to request a tour (8am-3pm M-F), please contact afdet730@pitt.edu or 412-624-6361. Please allow 1-3 business days for an email or interest form response.

Potential 2-year scholarships (typically $18k annually) may be available to "Walk-On" Cadets for their last two years in the program prior to Commissioning.
