Detachment 730

Enrollment

Here you will find some of the requirements to become a cadet in our program. Most importantly, all cadets are expected to live by the USAF core values of integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. If you are interested in joining, please visit the Meet the Cadre page to get in touch with a cadre member.

Cadets typically enter AFROTC in their undergraduate college studies within their first or second years. Junior year students can enter but need to talk to Cadre first.

Approximately 5% of our Cadets enter as High School Scholarship Program (HSSP) Scholars through a very competitive process. About 95% of our Cadets are "Walk On" students with scholarship opportunities later in our program. HSSP non-selects can always "Walk On."

HSSP Scholarship Requirements

This 4 year scholarship is highly competitive and typically awarded to upcoming STEM majors.

The window for application typically 1 July to 31 December of their high school senior year.

Walk-Ons

Potential 2 Year scholarships (typically $18k annually) are offered to "Walk-On" cadets for their last two years in the program prior to commissioning.

Contact Det 730 Cadre (afdet730@pitt.edu) for questions, program info, or details about how to "Walk-On."

Requirements

Visit the AFROTC website for more on program requirements.

Academics

Cadets must pass LLAB and earn at least a C- in their AS class. Cadets must earn a 2.0 GPA or better to remain a cadet. Scholarship cadets must maintain a 2.5 GPA or better to retain their scholarship.

Non-scholarship cadets need to pass their fitness assessment and meet BMI standards prior to field training (summer between sophomore and Junior year) and before graduation and commission.

Cadets must be medically eligibile to enter active duty. Visit the Air Force ROTC webite in order to learn more about the medical requirements.

Attendance

While cadets must attend 80% of both LLAB and PT, 100% attendance is the standard. Cadets are also expected to be actively involved in other AFROTC events.
