Complete the OCC and Join the Elite 

The Outside the Classroom Curriculum Honor Society is a student organization created to help recognize students for taking the initiative to fully engage in their co-curricular life while being a student at the University of Pittsburgh. By completing the OCC, students are demonstrating to prospective employers or graduate/professional schools that they have fully engaged in their beyond the classroom education and developed practical skills that set them apart. 

Becoming Eligible to Join 

Once you have earned 150 points in each of the nine OCC goal areas, you are eligible to join the OCC Honor Society.  Navigate to the Outside the Classroom Curriculum badge in Suitable to find the completion application. After our office has approved your application, we will email you and set up a time for your New Members Orientation. OCC Honor Society members are strongly encouraged to attend an Induction ceremony to formalize their achievement.  Induction ceremonies are held once per semester during the last week of classes. 

Induction and Membership Benefits 

OCC Honor Society Induction – Each year, the OCC Honor Society hosts an Induction ceremony to welcome new members into the distinguished community. At the ceremony, students will be recognized for their accomplishment of completing the OCC. The ceremony is followed by a catered reception. 

OCC Honor Society members are eligible and encouraged to attend all OCC Honor Society events.  Members will also receive a green cord of distinction to wear at graduation, as well as an OCC quarter zip. Look out for exclusive invitations to these events:

OCC Advantage Grant 

All students who complete the OCC are also eligible to apply for funding from the OCC Advantage Grant. To learn more about this $1,500 award, visit the OCC Advantage Grant page. 

Membership in the OCC Honor Society is open to qualified candidates of any age, sex, sexual orientation, race, handicap or disability, color, religion, and national and ethnic origin.

Become an OCC Ambassador

OCC Ambassadors play a pivotal role in getting to word out and representing the OCC. In this leadership role, Ambassadors get to table at events, host information sessions, and help with our Secrets of the Cathedral Tours and Induction Ceremonies.

Other responsibilities include:

•Giving students a quick overview of what the OCC is, the benefits of completing it, and explain/demonstrate how to complete it.

•Delivering OCC QR codes to events before the start of the event

•Doing short presentations for different organizations around campus, such as clubs, Greek life, RA floor meetings, classes, etc.

As an Ambassador you'll also have the opportunity to receive exclusive Ambassador Merch, including our Ambassador crew neck and gain valuable leadership skills and opportunities.
