Ruff Ride PGH 2023

Join the Student Affairs team for Ruff Ride PGH 2023 and help support the training of service dogs for wounded veterans! Ruff Ride is part festival, part competition, and all fun. Teams compete against each other for bragging rights throughout the event all while raising funds for Team Foster. As Team Foster’s official website reminds us, “One properly trained service dog can take two years and more than $25,000 to train.”

Bringing Communities Together with Writer-In-Residence Damon Young

This year, the Frederick Honors College has introduced their very first writer-in-residence, born and bred Pittsburgh writer, celebrity, and humorist, Damon Young. Damon’s first book, What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Blacker, was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work in Nonfiction and won the Thurber Prize for American Humor.

Mental Health Awareness Month is held each year during the month of October and is meant to spread awareness about mental health resources on campus, reduce stigma, and increase connection. To learn some tips and tricks for MHAM, we talked to Associate Director of Outreach at the University Counseling Center, Bernadette Smith, to learn more about wellness-related programs.
