Writing and Communications Internship

The Marketing and Communications office in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh is offering a writing and communications internship for the FALL 2023. Responsibilities will include working with the Marketing Specialist and Student Affairs staff to:  

  • interview subjects and write and edit articles for various publications including web, newsletters, and more; 
  • write copy and schedule social media posts;
  • prepare, edit, and proofread email campaigns;
  • assist in data and tracking of social media campaigns;
  • write post-event recaps to distribute and post;
  • provide support in producing other marketing and communications materials and;
  • assist in video production and on-camera work as needed.

The ideal candidate will have proven writing and editing skills along with skills and experience working with the Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience with social media management and software such as Canva is ideal but not required. 

Candidates should be able thrive in a fast-paced environment, work well individually and as a member of a team, have excellent attention to detail, and be able to meet deadlines. 

Hours are flexible and include evening and weekend hours when necessary to cover events. 

Graphic Design Internship

The Marketing and Communications office in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh is offering a graphic design internship for Fall 2023 semester.   

The ideal candidate will … 

  • Develop multilayered marketing campaigns, within the brand standards of the University, to effectively promote the programs and services sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Focus on designing thoughtful solutions to reach the vast audiences within the University, primarily students, and creating seamless, on-target communications.
  • The ideal candidate will need to develop advertisements quickly and independently, as well as collaboratively with design mentor and fellow interns.
  • Design concepts must be delivered through an array of media, including: web, signage, e-newsletters, publications, apparel, and more.

Applicants must have proven graphic design ability, strong typography skills, and experience working with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), as well as Microsoft Office.  Samples of previous work required.  

Work environment is fast-paced, and both excellent attention to detail and meeting assigned deadlines are critical.  Some writing, editorial, and photography skills also would be beneficial. Hours are flexible. 

Social Media Internship

Description - Internal 

The Marketing and Communications office in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh is offering a writing and communications internship for the FALL 2022 and SPRING 2023. 

Responsibilities will include working with the Marketing Specialist and Student Affairs staff to: 

  • planning and creating content for various Student Affairs social media channels;
  • appear in and maintain a calendar of TikTok content;
  • cover Student Affairs events on social media;
  • write copy and schedule social media posts and;
  • assist in data and tracking of social media campaigns.

Hours are usually worked Monday through Friday but are flexible and can include evening and weekend hours when necessary to cover events. 

Writing and media samples are not required but are encouraged. 

Qualifications - Internal 

The ideal candidate will have proven writing and editing skills along with skills and experience working with social media management (TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook). Experience with software such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is ideal but not required.

Photography & Video Production Internship

The Marketing and Communications office in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh is offering a photography & video production internship for the spring 2023 and/or fall 2023 term.

As a photography & video production intern, you will:

  • Capture photo and/or video content to promote Student Affairs events and services.
  • Edit/submit materials in a timely manner to meet project deadlines.
  • Participate in pre-production creative sessions.
  • Test and inventory studio equipment.
  • Report to and work alongside the Creative Producer.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has proven photography and/or video production experience.
  • Is working toward a career in production, digital marketing, or a related field.
  • Possesses a base knowledge of any of the following software:
    • Adobe Lightroom
    • Adobe Photoshop
    • Adobe Premiere
    • Adobe After Effects
    • Davinci Resolve
  • Can work autonomously when the Creative Producer is unavailable.
  • Is a thorough communicator.
  • Is eager to learn, exercising a growth mindset.
  • Hours are flexible and often include weekends and evenings as well as office hours.
