Hattie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a background in direct practice and trauma- focused treatment. Her primary areas of focus have included relationship concerns and addiction. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from West Virginia University, with a double major in Psychology and Women & Gender Studies. Hattie then completed her Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. She later worked as a drug and alcohol outpatient therapist, where she administered assessments, intensive outpatient group therapy, and individual therapy. Hattie also completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and Gottman Level I therapy.
During her years of work as a clinician, Hattie developed a passion for helping clients navigate complex systems and access resources. This led her to transition into advocacy work, and she is now one of the first Care Advocates at Pitt. Hattie hopes to use her knowledge and experience to help students navigate the University system after incidents of sexual misconduct and other forms of identity-based harassment, discrimination, and harm.
