Commuter Student Programs
Commuter Student Programs is here to support off-campus students, those who live in the Pittsburgh area, as well as those who commute to campus. We recognize mastering how to navigate from home to campus is only a small part of commuting. We strive to foster a sense of community and personal growth among commuter students while providing resources, mentorship, and advocacy to assist students in becoming more actively involved on Pitt’s campus.
If you are not living in university-owned housing (residence hall or apartment), you are commuter student.
Commuter Student Programs provides additional support, resources, and mentorship to our first-year commuter student community. Each first-year commuter student will receive direct communication from the Office of New Student Programs over the summer about Welcome Week. During Welcome Week, we host Commuter Day. Commuter Day provides a sense of community among first-year commuter students, connects you with our team of First Year Mentors, and assists students navigating Pitt for the first time.
The Commuter Lounge is a home away from home for you, our commuter students. It’s a great place to relax in between classes, spend some time studying, or socialize with other commuter students!
More information about the commuter lounge location will come soon in January.
Lockers for rent are available in Posvar Hall. To rent a locker, visit the William Pitt Union Ticket Office located on the Main Floor of the William Pitt Union. For more information, visit here and click on the Locker Rentals button.
No lock deposit, $7 rental for 1st semester, $5 rental for 2nd semester
Students may terminate their locker rental any time by removing the contents of the locker and returning the lock to The William Pitt Union Ticket Office. A receipt will be issued for $8.00 redeemable at the Student Payment Center in Thackeray Hall.
ATTENTION: Failure to return lock may result in a hold being placed on the student’s account.
For many commuter students, your car is a vital component to obtaining your education. That's why we offer commuter student permits, which are available for the OC, TV, and UDA lots (lot availability is subject to change), and are valid in all non-restricted University lots after 5 p.m. and on weekends, except during special events. Permits are not valid for overnight parking in any campus lots.
Additionally, hourly and daily parking rates are available for commuters in the OC, OH, PH, SO, and SN facilities.
Bikes, Buses, and Shuttles
Residents of on-campus apartment-style accommodations (including Bouquet Gardens, Centre Plaza Apartments, Forbes Craig Apartments, and Ruskin Hall) off-campus independent apartments, or commuter students can select a meal plan from the Ultimate Access or Dining Pass Tiers.
