America Reads Challenge

The America Reads Challenge (ARC) at Pitt helps to support local K–12 students in building essential literacy skills through tailored lesson plans and one-on-one tutoring, with ARC tutors also serving as mentors.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. This is primarily a paid position intended for students on Federal Work Study (FWS). To see if you are eligible for Federal Work Study, please contact the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.
  2. If you need volunteer hours or experiential credit for your school/major, you may use ARC to fulfill those requirements.

If you are not on Federal Work Study and you do not require volunteer hours/experiential credit for your school/major, you will not be considered for this position.

Now Hiring

Our program is currently hiring tutors to serve at three potential locations during the following times:

  • Weil (Pittsburgh Weil PreK-5)
    • Address: 2250 Centre Ave Pittsburgh, PA 15219
    • Times needed: 8-11:15 OR 12-2:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays 
  • CARES at Wesley (after school program)
    • Address: 2701 Centre Ave Pittsburgh PA 15219
    • Times needed: 3:30-5:30 on Mondays through Thursdays
  • The Corner (after school program)
    • Address: 200 Robinson St Pittsburgh, PA 15213
    • Times needed: 3:30-6:30 on Mondays and/or Wednesdays

Tutors are required to tutor at their assigned site at least once a week, any other available times will be determined via the student’s availability.
