William Pitt Union
Guest Relations Assistants will be required to use communication, professionalism, and customer service skills to direct and assist students, campus visitors, and University of Pittsburgh staff. Student employees will develop appropriate customer service skills including: greeting visitors, answering questions, and using proper phone etiquette. The Guest Relations Assistant is expected to remain alert and knowledgeable of building activities at the William Pitt Union, Cathedral of Learning, and David Lawrence Hall. This student staff member will maintain the William Pitt Union information desk, accurately log and maintain Lost & Found and Will Call items, distribute keys to student offices, make deliveries across campus, and perform any other administrative tasks as assigned. In addition, this position will work with event sponsors to open and close event rooms, coordinate day of event logistics, and monitor event spaces for appropriate usage. At times, the Guest Relations Assistant will assist in handling emergencies and following protocol in the event of an emergency.
Nordy’s Attendants serve students who utilize Nordy’s Place through management of games, pool and ping pong rentals, and food service. The attendant is responsible for upholding all food service requirements when preparing and serving food. The Nordy’s Attendant is responsible for ensuring a clean appearance of Nordy’s Place at all times. The Nordy’s Attendant will provide a high level of customer service to all patrons of Nordy’s Place. Additionally, Attendants will help plan and execute events in Nordy’s Place. This position is in a fast-paced environment in which students will manage multiple tasks at once to ensure a smooth operation of Nordy’s Place. Evening and weekend hours are required. Sales and food service is not required, but preferred.
A Reservations Assistant must be efficient, attentive and a fast learner. The duties of a Reservations Assistant are to reserve spaces on campus via EMS software for student organizations and University departments, produce room setups for events in the William Pitt Union, and handle inquires via phone, email, and at the reservations window. Students must have a high standard for customer service as this position involves interacting with others, such as the William Pitt Union staff, representatives of campus organizations, and departments throughout the University of Pittsburgh.
A Reservations Assistant- Event Coordinator must be organized, have excellent phone manners, be able to keep meticulous notes, and have a high standard for customer service. The duties required of the event coordinator include reaching out to professional staff and student organizations to discuss program details, making any changes in EMS and in any pre-existing setups, logging all points of contact, and handling general inquiries by phone, email, or at the reservations window. An event coordinator must be prepared to interact with other William Pitt Union staff members, representatives of student organizations, and University departments.
Ticket Office Assistants must be efficient, attentive to detail, and fast learners. Organizational skills and a high level of accuracy are necessary for this position. Student employees will develop appropriate customer service skills including: greeting customers, answering questions, and using proper phone etiquette as needed. Duties of this position include selling various event tickets from the ticket window, assisting with Cathedral of Learning locker rentals, counting, verifying, and sorting Nordy’s Place sales, deliveries, and other administrative tasks. This position requires a high-level of responsibility and trustworthiness. Sales and Microsoft Office experience is not required, but preferred. Student employees will learn how to operate the William Pitt Union Ticket Office cash register. Occasionally, this position will step in for the William Pitt Union Information Desk Attendant; therefore, general knowledge of the student unions, campus, and the city is required.
O’Hara Student Center
The OSC Information Desk attendant will be required to use problem solving, communication and organizational skills to direct and assist students, campus visitors, and University staff. While employed at the OSC Information Desk, students will use their knowledge of both the campus and the city to help students, faculty and staff successfully navigate the facility, campus and Pittsburgh. Student employees will develop extensive customer service skills. In addition, the information attendant will maintain a list of building activities and distribute keys and passes to student offices in accordance with OSC procedures and policies. The information attendant will assist in handling emergencies and following protocol in the event of an emergency.
While employed with Technical Services, the student employee will provide audio/visual support to events in the William Pitt Union and O’Hara Student Center. Technical Services staff are mainly responsible for setting up and running events as well as assisting in the operation of sound for events. Therefore, they must develop and demonstrate a working knowledge of all technical equipment (lighting, sound, stage, & projection). Prior live audio and lighting experience is preferred, but not required. Training on all equipment will be provided. The Technical Services staff will also provide a high level of customer service to all patrons of the William Pitt Union and the O’Hara Student Center. Staff will be required to provide customer support by greeting visitors and providing them with any needed technical assistance. This position is in a fast-paced environment in which students will manage multiple tasks at once, utilize strong communication skills and maintain a professional demeanor. Prior customer service experience is preferred, but not required.
