While students will learn differently, based on the varying jobs they perform, employment in the WPU should help prepare all students to:

While employed with William Pitt Union (WPU) Technical Services, students assist the Technical Manager in the setting up and running of technical equipment to ensure the success of events hosted by students, faculty and staff. The Technical Services staff at the WPU and the O’Hara Student Center (OSC) use problem solving, communication and organizational skills to assist students, campus visitors, and University staff. Student employees will develop extensive customer service skills.
Student Reservations Assistant
The duties of a reservations assistant include reserving spaces on campus via EMS software for student organizations and University departments, producing room set-ups for events in the WPU, and handling inquiries via phone, email and at the reservations window. Students must have a high standard for customer service, as this position involves constant interaction with representatives of campus organizations, faculty and staff.
Nordy’s Place employs students in the position of Nordy’s attendant. This position is responsible for the management of games, pool and ping pong rentals and food service. The attendant will uphold all food service requirements when preparing and serving food. He or she will ensure that the facility is clean at all times. The Nordy’s attendant will provide a high level of customer service to all patrons of Nordy’s.
The WPU Information Desk attendant will be required to use problem solving, communication and organizational skills to direct and assist students, campus visitors, and University staff. While employed at the WPU Information Desk, students will use their knowledge of both the campus and the city to help students, faculty and staff successfully navigate the facility, campus and Pittsburgh. Student employees will develop extensive customer service skills. In addition, the information attendant will maintain a list of building activities and distribute keys and passes to student offices in accordance with WPU procedures and policies. The information attendant will assist in handling emergencies and following protocol in the event of an emergency.
