Family Weekend FAQ

When is the registration deadline?

The deadline to register online is Monday, October 15, 2018.  Advance online registration at $30 per family ends October 15, 2018.  After October 15, online registration is no longer available. If tickets and passes are still available, registration at $40 per family begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 in person at Family Weekend check-in (William Pitt Union). We will update this site as to the availability of registration after the deadline.

Can I register on-site?

Onsite registration will be available on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 1-8 p.m. in the William Pitt Union.  The on-site registration fee is $40/family.

Do I have to register?

We hope you will! The Family Weekend program coordinates options for families to enjoy a campus visit with their students, including social events, freebies, and fantastic ticket discounts! But NO, if you do not wish to attend Family Weekend programs and take advantage of exclusive ticket pricing, registration is not required – you are always welcome on campus.

What are these Add On Events?

New to this year are what we call Add On Events, ticketed events that can be purchased in addition to your Family Weekend registration.  They are the ThinkFast! Trivia Game Show, Mentalist Craig Karges, and the Family Weekend Tailgate.  Space is extremely limited, so act fast!  Once they sell out they will be taken off of the Registration schedule.  You will be able to receive your tickets to these events at Check In.  More information about these events can be found on our Schedule!

Does everyone need tickets to these Add On Events?

Tickets for the ThinkFast! Trivia Game Show and Mentalist Craig Karges are PER FAMILY.  Tickets to the Family Weekend Tailgate are PER PERSON, and each member of the family, including your student, will need a ticket.

Is my registration refundable?

No, registration, including any Add On Event purchases made, are NON-REFUNDABLE.

Do I have to check-in for Family Weekend?

If you are registered – YES! Tickets are not mailed and must be picked up at Family Weekend Check-in. Wristbands for registered families and printed copies of the final schedule are also distributed at Check-in. Your student may check in on behalf of family; student or parent photo ID required.

When and where is Check-In?

Check-In will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 1-8 p.m. and Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 9-11 a.m. in the William Pitt Union.  Photo ID is required to check-in.

Can my student check in for our family?

Yes!  Your student may check-in on behalf of your family as long as they have a valid photo ID (student ID or driver’s license).  *However, all family members must be present to receive wristbands to the residence halls.

Will event tickets still be available at Check-In?

If available. We suggest you order any Add On tickets (Game Show, Mentalist, Tailgate) and football tickets ahead of time. There is limited space available for many of these, so don't wait!

Family Weekend wristbands are distributed at check-in and each family will receive one wristband per family member (including students).  These wristbands will grant you access to wonderful discounts at area museums and stores and access to some Family Weekend events.  Plus, they are going to look AWESOME!

Is my Family Weekend registration fee refundable?

The Family Weekend Registration fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Why do I need a Family Weekend wristband?

Family Weekend wristbands are distributed at check-in and each family will receive one wristband per family member (including students).  These wristbands will grant you access to wonderful discounts at area museums and stores and access to some Family Weekend events.  Family Weekend wristbands will also grant you access to receive an additional wristband for expedited access to the residence hall.

Where can my family park for the weekend?

Public parking is available at multiple locations on lower and upper campus.

There is a Family Weekend Parking pass for the Soldiers and Sailor’s Parking Garage across from the William Pitt Union.  You have your choice of purchasing a Friday-Sunday pass ($20), or just Saturday-Sunday ($15).  Each pass will have in and out privileges, which means you are free to come and go as long as the garage is open (closes at midnight Friday night; Saturday and Sunday open from 8 am-12 am).

Please check out the normal parking fees to determine if this pass is right for you: http://alcoparking.com/lot-garage/soldiers-and-sailors-parking-garage/  If you believe you will be making multiple trips on and off campus, or want to secure a spot somewhere this pass would be good for you.  All passes will be attached to your Spirit Pack at Check In, either Friday Oct. 26 1-8 pm or Saturday Oct. 27 9-11 am, and pick up is in the William Pitt Union.

Upper campus parking is available in the OC (Allequippa Street) Lot, located between the Cost Center and Sutherland Hall.  Shuttle service is available from upper campus. The 15A OC shuttle runs to lower campus only until 10:30 p.m. on Friday. The 10A Upper Campus shuttle will run through the weekend; the 10A stop is at Sutherland Hall.

Can my family use the campus shuttle system during Family Weekend?

Campus shuttles are available to all family members during Family Weekend.  Family members are also welcome to use the game shuttles down to the football game at Heinz Field.
