Brendan White is a third-year Scholar at Pitt, where he studies mathematics and data science. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Brendan is interested in the intersection of technology, machine learning, statistics, and public policy. He hopes to build a career that bridges government and the private sector, working at the crossroads of data, technology, and decision-making. He has already begun exploring these interests through hands-on experience; he completed a machine learning project for the Pittsburgh Pirates focused on base-stealing analytics, and he conducted a directed study in social choice theory, examining how societies make decisions and allocate resources. Over the past year, Brendan interned in the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office at the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency, contributing to automation and AI implementation efforts across the federal government. He is currently interning on the product team at Blue Street Data, a Pittsburgh-based startup focused on improving data purchasing systems. On campus, Brendan sings bass in the prestigious Heinz Chapel Choir, an ensemble he dreamed of joining after attending concerts there with his grandparents. This summer, the choir will travel to Estonia and Latvia to perform and explore the rich choral traditions of the region. Brendan also serves as the academic affairs chair for the Student Government Board, working to enhance the academic experience for Pitt students. In addition, he is a student minister and board member with Lutheran Campus Ministry of Greater Pittsburgh and serves as the vice president of membership for Triangle Fraternity, where he mentors new members in leadership and values-based development. A proud Pittsburgh sports fan, Brendan credits the University of Pittsburgh and the Stamps Scholars Program for supporting his academic and professional growth, and he looks forward to continuing to explore how data and policy can shape the future.
