About Us
Pitt’s Residence Life provides meaningful living-learning experiences in purposeful, engaging, and student-focused communities that support personal development, academic success, and the quality Pitt undergraduate programs and the first-year experience.
Students who live on campus consistently have higher GPAs, have a higher percentage of students that return to Pitt for their second year (retention rate), have higher graduation rates, and have more opportunities to become part of the Pitt community.
The on-campus experience gives close to 6,000 students the best of both worlds – a supportive environment to grow personally and academically along with enjoying the convenience of an urban, energetic and neighborly backdrop.
Mission
The Office of Residence Life at the University of Pittsburgh builds inclusive communities through personal relationships, experiential learning, and engaging programming. Our professional and student staff are committed to providing opportunities for residents to take ownership of their development, discover their purpose, and lead lives of significance.
Vision
To provide our students with the best residential experience in the world.
Values
We value every individual within our communities and strive to help each one of them feel a sense of belonging at Pitt.
We value the development of meaningful relationships where individuals can find strength and comfort by exploring and celebrating their similarities and differences.
We value the intellectual and emotional growth of individuals as they discover who they are and how they can impact the world.
We value building individual relationships to provide support, resources, and services to help our students succeed.
Commitments
The Office of Residence Life staff have the following commitments that help guide our practice and operation. Our work is driven by an ethic of care, inclusivity, and empathy that we feel is paramount to our interactions with students in their growth and development to build an engaged community.
We empower students to take ownership of their choices, successes, failures, and experiences while striving for success at Pitt and beyond.
We work closely with campus and community partners to bring learning into the residence halls. Through these experiences, our students gain exposure to new concepts, ideas and backgrounds; and we encourage our students to explore all the resources that the University has to offer. By learning more about the communities and world around them, students discover more about themselves.
We are preparing students to lead lives of significance by teaching interpersonal skills, encouraging diverse experiences, engaging our community, and embodying Panther Pride.
Panther Pride Lives Here
The Common spirit of what it means to be a Pitt Panther that thrives in each residence hall.
