About the Pantry

PittServes is committed to ensuring that all students have regular access to healthy food options. In partnership with the Bellefield Presbyterian Church (4001 Fifth Ave), members of the Pitt community can visit the Pitt Pantry to select items of need. The Pitt Pantry was created in spring 2015 with the generous support of University of Pittsburgh Housing, Sodexo, and donations from the university staff and greater Pittsburgh community.

The Pitt Pantry is dedicated to ensuring that all students have regular access to a balanced and nutritious diet by hosting regular shopping hours to obtain food and services. It is completely volunteer-run and operates on charitable donations received from individuals and organizations within the community.

Meet the Executive Board

Hello! My name is Anita Bargaje and I serve as the 2021-2022 president of the Pitt Pantry. I am a senior majoring in computational biology with a certificate in global health. My pronouns are she/ her/ hers. I support the Pitt Pantry because I believe that our pantry plays a significant role in reducing food insecurity. I have interacted with a multitude of grateful customers and volunteers. I will forever be grateful for the experiences and memories that I have made given my involvement with the pantry. Outside of the Pitt Pantry, I am part of Pitt Women’s Ultimate frisbee team and a member of Phi Delta Epsilon, Pitt’s premedical fraternity.
Hi! My name is Jaden Rankin-Wahlers and I am in my final year of law school. I previously volunteered with the Lion’s Pantry at Penn State and now I am the Vice President of Impact and Assessment with the Pitt Pantry. My job is to update the university on how many people use the pantry, how people find out about it, and how we can better serve our patrons. It is important to me that hunger does not impact a student’s ability to reach academic success.
Hello, my name is Keerti Gudipalli and I’m the VP of Volunteer Management at the Pantry this semester. It is a great privilege to be involved in the Pantry since the fall of 2019. Along the way I’ve met an incredible group of inclusive, considerate, and helpful people who have made my time at the pantry quite enjoyable. We, at the Pantry, are driven about fighting food insecurity and the collective efforts of each and every member is something I find really inspiring. Something I love about the Pantry is their dedication to creating the best experience for the volunteers and our shoppers.
Hi! My name is Teja Pulavarthi, a first-year student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health pursuing an MPH in Epidemiology. I have been at the pantry since my fall semester of my freshman undergraduate year and learned about the pantry through a university volunteer event where I assisted with composting. As the VP of Food Procurement, I enjoy speaking with shoppers about our food selection and finding how I can accommodate for their recommendations. Pitt Pantry has been one of my favorite initiatives on campus and our team truly strives to serve and educate the students and staff of Pitt.
Hello! My name is Rachel Vertucci and I am the VP of Events, Marketing and Outreach for the Pitt Pantry. I am a Junior majoring in Supply Chain and Global Management and pursuing certificates in German and Business Analytics. Outside of the Pantry and class, I am the Director of the Green Fund and serve on the Student Office of Sustainability council. My favorite part about working with the Pitt Pantry is spreading the word about the resources the Pantry offers so that we can further reduce food insecurity on campus.
