Summer 2021 Pre-Arrival Sessions Series

Global Ties invites all incoming international students to our “Summer 2021 Pre-Arrival Sessions” series, held virtually on Zoom. We are offering 12 unique sessions, all hosted by Global Ties Mentors. You can attend a special topic session, a major or school-based session, or a regional-based session. At these sessions, you can learn information about Pitt and the city of Pittsburgh from the Global Ties Mentors and make friends with other new international students. We can’t wait to meet you!

Each session will be hosted by Global Ties Mentors with experience in the designated area of study or school. They will tell you about their experience with classes, professors, and career opportunities in that department or school.

At United States universities, it is common to enter with an undecided major, or to change majors. If you’re interested in multiple areas of study, we encourage you to attend multiple sessions!

College of Business Administration:

School of Engineering and Computer Science:

Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences:

The GTMs in this session have experience with a variety of majors in the School of Arts and Sciences, ranging from natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, languages, arts, etc. It could also be a helpful session for undecided majors to get to know a variety of majors offered at Pitt.

Medical and Health Science Field:

Saturday, July 17, 9pm EST

Highly recommended for students interested in going into the medical or health science field. The GTMs in this session have a broad range of experience with areas such as Nursing, Rehab Science, Pre-med, Global Health, etc.

Undecided Major:

Sunday, July 25, 9am EST

Many students arrive at Pitt without having decided their major, and it’s a great opportunity to explore different things! GTMs will give advice to students who haven’t decided on a major yet and share their stories of how they decided on a major during college. Plus, get advice about the best general education classes to take.

Academic Life:

Learn about how to use the class enrollment system, American classroom structures and interactions with professors, and academic resources to help you succeed.

Life in Pittsburgh:

Sunday, July 18, 9am EST

Trying cool restaurants, getting around the city, and understanding Pittsburgh culture are all part of life in Pittsburgh. GTMs will tell you what Pittsburgh life is like and how to navigate it.

Student Life:

Sunday, July 25, 10pm EST

Learn about student organizations, campus resources, residence life, and wellness resources at Pitt.


There are 4 regional sessions divided by time-zones. In these sessions, you will be doing several cultural exchange activities and meet other international students who will be coming to Pitt in Fall. You will also have the opportunity to ask us any questions you have!
