Affected by the Government Shutdown Impact on SNAP Benefits? You have options from Care & Resource Support.
- Student Emergency Assistance Funds: Students receiving SNAP benefits may apply for emergency funding to help bridge their benefits during the month of November.
- Increased Pitt Pantry Access: Students receiving SNAP benefits may visit the Pitt Pantry two additional times per month throughout November and December.
- Thanksgiving Recess Access: The Pitt Pantry will be open on Tuesday during Thanksgiving Recess to ensure continued access to food resources. Students can also attend the Pitt Eats Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday.
- Extended Pitt Pantry Operations: The Pitt Pantry will now remain open through December 12. Operations will be reassessed if SNAP benefits are not restored.
- Expanded Food Supply: A $5,500 grant from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will be fully utilized to purchase additional food in response to increased demand in November.
- Meal Assistance Expansion: Meal assistance capacity is being expanded in collaboration with the Office of Business, Hospitality, and Auxiliary Services. Students receiving SNAP benefits applying for meal assistance during this period will not affect future eligibility for assistance.
- Ongoing Student Support: Staff will continue monitoring pittcares@pitt.edu and reviewing Care Referrals throughout the Thanksgiving Recess to ensure timely support for students in need.
