Spring semester is here! In just a few short months, we can read at Schenley Plaza, throw a frisbee on Cathy lawn, and take hammock naps. But there are many other ways to enjoy the semester before we swap out our snow boots for flip-flops. Here are 6 tips to help you make the most out of this semester.
1. Make your New Year’s Resolution to try something new
Dressing up in princess/superhero costumes, training service puppies, and learning a new language are only a fraction of the activities you can do with Pitt student organizations. To learn more about all student organizations attend the Student Activities Fair on Wednesday, January 9 from 1-3 pm on the main level of the William Pitt Union.
2. Check out the Phipps Spring Flower Show
Starting March 23 you can experience Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens’ Annual Spring Flower Show for free with your Pitt ID. Admire all the vibrant colors spring’s beautiful blooms have to offer. Daffodils, lilies, tulips and more await your delight!
3. Prepare for summer internships.
Finding a summer internship can be tedious, but resources offered by the University help make the process a lot less stressful! The Career Center, located on the second floor of the William Pitt Union, provides counselors eager to help you reach your goals. Additionally, stop by the Spring Career + Internship Fair to speak with a variety of company representatives.
4. Build your Resume
Spring offers a variety of opportunities that will make you stand out to employers. You can enhance your skills by attending programs such as the Panther Leadership Summit and Emerging Leaders. Volunteer around the City of Pittsburgh with MLK Day of Service and Be a Good Neighbor Day. Extend your service further by routinely volunteering with local organizations. Check out Pitt Serves for more information.
5. Plan something fun for Spring Break
Spring Break is the perfect time for you to relax and have fun. Whether you’ll be in Pittsburgh, at home with friends and family, or somewhere you’ve never been plan fun activities now to make your break unforgettable. You can take advantage of Alternative Break to visit somewhere new and make a difference in that community! Learn more about Alternative Break here.
6. Show your Panther pride
Take advantage of discounted and free student tickets to Pitt Athletics events. Basketball, gymnastics, wrestling, baseball, and softball are just a few of the sports played during the spring semester. Cheer on these teams as they compete for ACC titles and beyond.
