Cheryl Finlay joined the career services team at Pitt as director in 2008. She has worked for more than 30 years as a professional in the fields of career development and higher education. At Pitt, she is responsible for developing and administering an array of career services for Pitt students, encouraging employers to recruit and hire Pitt graduates, guiding students through the career exploration process, and engaging faculty, alumni, and staff in career activities, including career fairs, on-campus recruitment and networking events, and job shadowing programs. Additionally, Cheryl serves as Associate Dean of Students, overseeing Student Affairs departments including Disability Resources and Services, Marketing and Communication, and the Outside the Classroom Curriculum.
Prior to joining the Pitt staff, Cheryl worked in the Career Development Center of Jewish Family & Children’s Service for 11 years, including four years as the director. She also served as the executive director of the Chatham College Center for Professional Development, as director of the Point Park College Career Planning and Placement Office, and in private practice as a career consultant. Cheryl earned a BA in psychology at Thiel College, a MS in counselor education at Duquesne University, and a PhD in higher education administration at Pitt. She is a member of the Southeastern/Atlantic Coast Career conference (SEACnet); the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), serving as a NACE Ambassador; the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE), serving on the Sponsorship Committee; and NASPA—Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. Finlay is the Recording Secretary of the Executive Board of the Lambda Sigma National Sophomore Honor Society and has been staff advisor for Pitt’s Alpha Chapter since 2014.
